The Identity Construction and Self-Perception of Queer Sinti and Roma

This thesis examines the identity construction and self-perception of queer Sinti and Roma in Central Europe. Sinti and Roma are at the fringe of society and are subjected to discrimination and antiziganist stigmatisation. As a result, identity construction involves greater effort and leads to the creation of a collective identity that provides Sinti and Roma with a sense of belonging. Queer Sinti and Roma are exposed to intersectional discrimination on the axes of racism and homophobia and occupy a special position within identity formation. Incorporating data from three narrative interviews, testimonies and selected chapters from an autobiographical book, this study demonstrates that intersectional discrimination highly influences identity formation within queer Sinti and Roma. It was shown that identity construction was shaped by concepts like Masking Identity and the Perception of Othering that can be overcome by finding spaces of Belonging and social networks that display Allyship. The establishment of safe spaces for queer Sinti and Roma are crucial for the creation of spaces of Belonging and the manifestation of a mutual group identity. Integration of Immigrants from East and Middle East

The topic of my thesis is the integration of foreigners from the Middle East. I have chosen this topic because of my professional focus on working with foreigners and my personal interest in social work, both in public and non-profit organizations. The aim of my bachelor thesis is to find out how foreigners from the Middle East are integrated into the Czech Republic, and how social workers can help according to their subjective statements. Five participants completed the research, respondents representing different nationalities from the study region. With each of the respondents, I undertook an in-depth semi-structured interview. The study is divided into theoretical and practical parts. In the theoretical part, I focus on statistical data about foreigners in the Czech Republic, the situation of selected national and ethnic minorities, legislation related to foreigners, migration and integration questions, as well as social work in the field of integration of foreigners. The practical part focuses on the research investigation and presentation of the results. The collected data were analyzed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. The research shows that the length of stay and the situation at the time of arrival in the Czech Republic had a strong influence on the process of integration of all participants. All the respondents demonstrated their full integration into the individualistic principles of modern society, and they were mainly interested in a less bonded way of life. On the basis of the collected research results, it can be considered that all the informants have been living in our country for a relatively long time, and it is evident that assimilation is in progress. Their ability to adapt has been demonstrated not only in their rapid learning of the Czech language but also in their adaptation to the local culture and religious tolerance. The results of this work serve as feedback to help us better understand the situation of migrants after their arrival in a new country. The comparison of their fates and the goals achieved in their integration into Czech society provides valuable insights for those interested in the issue of the integration of foreigners.
Representation of ethnic minorities in Czech TV shows

This thesis covers representation of ethnic minorities in Czech television scripted shows. In the theoretical part the main issues are explained, that have something to do with this topic, such as ethnicity and media representation. This phenomenon is also put into a wider complex and examples are given. In the practical part the thesis has a narrative analysis of chosen titles with focus on ethnic characters.
Media literacy in the digital age: Ethnic and national stereotypes in the media and their impact on high school youth

This bachelor's thesis examines the influence of the media on youth and explores it through the focus on ethnic and national stereotypes in the media. Through a quantitative method of questionnaire survey distributed among high school students in the Karviná region, it examines the ways of media consumption, experiences with media representation of ethnic and national minorities, as well as attitudes towards the represented reality. It also examines how students themselves perceive the influence of the media and what media and digital literacy tools they are aware of themselves. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the current state of media influence on youth, ethnic and national stereotype theory and digital literacy. The practical part is devoted to the analysis and presentation of the results of the questionnaire survey.
Factors influencing development of cultural competencies in nursing students

The concept of cultural competence hides a large amount of information on how to provide culturally appropriate care. This bachelor thesis deals not only with the cultural competencies themselves, but also with related factors that affect their development. It also deals with transcultural models and the effect of cultural competencies in the nursing process. The aim of the thesis was to map the factors influencing the development of cultural competencies in nursing students. To fulfil the goal, 4 hypotheses have been set. To verify the hypotheses, quantitative data collection has been performed using an online questionnaire. Students of the General Nurse and General Nursing program have been assigned to the research group. The results have shown that nursing students are influenced by the media, education, social networks and the attitude of teachers, but not to the extent we have expected. The results also show that nursing students most often meet the Romani people, Ukrainian and Vietnamese patients during their internship. As part of their internship, students most often encounter patients who profess Christianity, Islam, and Jehovah's Witnesses. In the research, students have shown that they have knowledge in the field of transcultural nursing and consider it important to provide culturally competent care. The conclusion of the research is that cultural competences will become more and more popular among nursing students due to the current increase in migration. The development of cultural competences will still need to be expanded in the areas of knowledge and skills in transcultural nursing.
The influence of ethnic attitudes and stereotypes in nursing care

In multicultural societies, life brings many pitfalls. Ethnic attitudes and stereotypes, which influence the behavior of the majority society towards minorities, are deeply rooted in every society. These attitudes and stereotypes do not shy away from medical staff who must provide care to clients of different ethnicities by their cultural, social, and spiritual needs. This thesis aimed to ascertain whether ethnic attitudes and stereotypes influence the nursing care of Roma and Vietnamese ethnic minorities, what factors influence the emergence of attitudes towards selected ethnic minorities, and whether the approach of nurses to nursing care of Roma and Vietnamese minorities is and where are differences. Hypotheses: H1: The negative attitudes of nurses towards the Roma minority based on their different attitudes to life rather than on based on their different physical appearance. H2: Sisters' negative attitudes towards the Vietnamese minority arise from their different attitudes to life, rather than from their different physical appearance. H3: In nursing care, nurses take a more positive attitude towards the Vietnamese minority than towards the Roma minority. H4: Nurses with stereotypes of the Roma minority in nursing care try to have minimal physical contact with clients of this ethnic group than nurses without stereotypes. H5: University-educated nurses, based on greater knowledge, are less influenced by ethnic attitudes manifested in nursing care for clients of ethnic minorities than secondary-educated nurses. Quantitative research was used for the implementation of the research survey and the elaboration of the practical part of the diploma thesis. The method of questioning in the form of a questionnaire with a set of closed questions was chosen. 216 questionnaires were used for statistical processing. The selection criteria were persons working in the position of general nurses of inpatient departments in five medical facilities in the South Bohemian Region. From the available results of the research survey, it was found that general nurses are widely aware of the existence of ethnic attitudes and stereotypes. It was shown that these attitudes have been formed to a large extent since childhood in the family and the emergence of the respondents attitudes was significantly influenced by personal experience with ethnicity. According to the obtained results, university-educated nurses are more influenced by ethnic attitudes than secondary school-educated nurses, nevertheless, they state that studying at a university has influenced their attitude towards selected minorities, especially they report obtaining more information. Furthermore, the survey found that the approach of nurses in the provision of nursing care to the Roma and Vietnamese minorities is different, respondents state a more positive attitude and approach to the Vietnamese minority than to the Roma. The nurses express their negative attitudes mainly by inappropriate statements and thoughts about members of these ethnic groups and also by an effort for minimal physical contact. H1-the hypothesis was confirmed. H2-the hypothesis was not confirmed. H3-the hypothesis was confirmed. H4-the hypothesis was confirmed. H5-the hypothesis was not confirmed. The results showed that ethnic attitudes in the provision of nursing care affect almost half of the respondents and in the case of ethnic stereotypes only one third of the respondents. These attitudes have been formed to a large extent since childhood in the family and to a large extent the personal experience of the respondents with ethnicity. University-educated nurses are more influenced by ethnic attitudes than high school-educated nurses. This thesis can be used as a tool to achieve greater awareness of nurses about this issue or as a basis for creating presentations for professional conferences in order to gradually reduce the influence of ethnic attitudes and stereotypes on the provision of nursing care.
Identity of descendants growing up in the environment of the Vietnamese and Ukrainian minority in the Czech Republic

This bachelor thesis focuses on members of the Ukrainian and Vietnamese minorities in the Czech Republic. Initially, it deals with the outline of general information about the mentioned minorities, their history within the Czech social environment and socio-cultural aspects. The central issue of the thesis lies in the description of the identity of the descendants of migrants who grew up in a culturally inhomogeneous environment. The aim of the thesis is to describe the aspects involved in the process of identity formation of these children, taking into account general information about identity, the social and cultural elements typical for defined minorities. The thesis is divided into two main parts. The theoretical part presents basic information about the Vietnamese and Ukrainians in the Czech Republic, describes the historical circumstances of their arrival in the Czech Republic, defines the basic concepts and attitudes that are further worked within the thesis, elaborates the concept of identity within the appropriate limits for the stated goal. The practical part is based on qualitative research using the technique of structured interviews withseveral members out of the researched groups. The aim of the research is to analyse and then compare the statements of respondents on the topic of their identity.
Téma rasismus a rasová tolerance ve výuce Výchovy k občanství a Základů společenských věd

Racism and racial tolerance are one of the greatest issues of today. These issues are addressed around almost the entire globe across all age groups. In the diploma thesis, student first defines key terms such as racism, xenophobia, ethnicity, multi culturalism or prejudice, from the theoretical, especially social sciences, point of view so that it is well connected with the following, practically oriented, part, dedicated to the educational process and the issue of racism. The practical part will be of special importance, as the author proposes methods and specific teaching activities that should help students to form opinions and attitudes on the issue of racial tolerance in terms of the current curriculum for the author's chosen type of school and age. In the thesis, the author will also try to describe the relationship of children towards these issues.
